alcohol with weight loss

Alcohol and Ideal Protein: To Cheers or Not To Cheers

According to the Ideal Protein experts, there should be no Alcohol consumed during Phases 1 and 2. Phase 1 is the weight loss phase and Phase 2 is the maintenance phase. During this time the body is in a state of ketosis. The liver and kidneys are producing glucose to maintain proper sugar levels.

Ketosis happens systematically when the body burns its fats.

Consuming alcohol at this time can stop the production of sugar in the liver, potentially leading to dangerously low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). This could lead to passing out without warning.

However, in Phase 3, you can start to reintroduce alcohol back into your diet. And you deserve it! By the time you enter Phase 3 it’s important to remember that your journey isn’t over, it’s just headed in a new direction.

Alcohol stimulates the appetite center in the brain while also lowering inhibitions and increasing impulsive behaviors. Because of this it’s important to drink responsibly. Habitual or heavy alcohol consumption can lead to weight regain.
