What is Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy?

Each cell in the body depends on oxygen to sustain life. Your body’s tissues, muscles and organs may benefit from higher levels of oxygen. Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (mHbOT) is non-invasive.

There are 3 ways that hyperbaric oxygen dosages can be adjusted:  1) degree of pressure used, 2) amount of oxygen given and 3) duration of treatment, including length of session under pressure, number, and frequency of treatments. The degree of pressure can vary from “mild hyperbaric” (mHBOT) –1.5
Atmospheres Absolute (ATA) and below, to “hyperbaric” (HBOT)— above 1.5 ATA.

FAQ

What should I do to prepare for a treatment?

People can go into the chamber fully clothed. It is recommended to wear loose comfortable clothing. Shoes, jewelry or any sharp objects should be removed before getting into the chamber.

How will the HBOT treatment feel?

The chamber will be filled with compressed air and oxygen. While the chamber is pressurizing, your ears will feel the change in pressure inside the chamber. Otherwise, it should be unnoticeable. To equalize the pressure and avoid the feeling of fullness in your ears, you will need to clear your ears by chewing gum, swallowing or yawning. During the pressurization of the chamber, your mouth may become dry. Once the chamber is fully pressurized, your salivation will return to normal.

Are there any side effects?

The most common side effect is a discomfort to the ears caused by pressure changes. To minimize the risk, patients learn to promote the adequate clearing of ears during pressurization. Some patients may feel tired and dizzy after using the hyperbaric chamber for the first time. It is a good signal as Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy will speed up the metabolism of our body. Just like people feel tired after a long run. These are usually good signs of indicating detoxification.

How can I learn about HBOT?

The most comprehensive book about HBOT is the Oxygen Revolution by Paul Harch, MD. The book is geared toward consumers who would like to learn more about how HBOT works and what conditions it treats. The book explored the science behind HBOT, as well as case histories of patients who have benefited from HBOT.
